WAYNE AND COLEEN ROONEY’S BIG REVEAL: Wayne and Coleen Rooney are set to appear in a new Disney+ reality series, with the first look at the couple now drawing attention ahead of its confirmed release date. But one unexpected detail surrounding the series has revealed a new layer to their lives away from football, giving viewers a closer look at the couple’s relationship, family life and what they are willing to share on screen.

Wayne and Coleen Rooney Give Fans a First Look at Their New Disney+ Reality Series

Fans of Wayne and Coleen Rooney have been given their first glimpse of the couple’s upcoming Disney+ reality series, with the streaming platform also confirming when viewers will be able to watch the highly anticipated show.

The series, titled The Real Rooneys, will provide an unusually close look at the family’s private life, following the couple and their four sons through an important period of personal and professional change.

Wayne Rooney, one of Manchester United’s greatest modern-era players, has been married to his childhood sweetheart Coleen since 2008. Their relationship began when they were teenagers growing up in the same area of Liverpool, and the couple have remained together for almost three decades.

Coleen has become a familiar figure in her own right, particularly following her appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year. She has also built a successful career away from football, while regularly sharing glimpses of family life with her followers on social media.

Wayne and Coleen are parents to four boys: 16-year-old Kai, 13-year-old Klay, 10-year-old Kit and eight-year-old Cass. Although the family has occasionally offered fans an insight into their lives online, the new Disney+ production promises to go much further by allowing cameras into their home and documenting their day-to-day experiences.

Disney+ unveiled the first official poster for the programme on Wednesday, August 26. The promotional image features Wayne and Coleen standing together beneath the show’s title, which is displayed prominently in red.

Coleen is pictured wearing a red top with her arms folded, while a pair of hands holding a diary and makeup brush appear around her. The imagery appears to reflect both her personal life and growing professional ambitions.

Wayne, meanwhile, is dressed in a suit similar to the smart outfits he regularly wears when working as a football pundit on Match of the Day. He is shown alongside a microphone and a small toy car, representing his broadcasting career and his role as a father.

The ten-part series will focus on a particularly significant chapter in the Rooney family’s lives. According to the show’s official description, the programme will document the changes taking place as Wayne moves away from football management and takes on a different role within the family.

After spending years working in football, Wayne will be shown adapting to life away from the touchline. His new routine will include more involvement in family responsibilities, including school runs and spending time with his children.

At the same time, Coleen will be pursuing some of the biggest professional opportunities of her career. One of the projects featured in the series is her work on a clothing range with Primark, giving viewers an insight into her business and creative ambitions.Coleen Rooney vows to show 'the real Rooneys' in first look at reality show with Wayne - The Mirror

The programme will also follow the family’s experience as their eldest son, Kai, attempts to establish his own path in football. Having grown up watching his father become one of England’s most successful players, Kai has developed ambitions of following a similar route.

This gives the series another important storyline, as Wayne and Coleen support their eldest child while balancing the demands of raising four boys.

Disney+ has promised viewers extensive access to the family, describing the programme as a candid look at both the positive and difficult moments of their lives.

The series is expected to feature family celebrations, major career developments, personal revelations and holidays. Viewers will be taken beyond the family’s home in Cheshire, with locations including Barbados and the snowy Alps also appearing in the programme.

Rather than focusing exclusively on Wayne’s football career or Coleen’s public profile, the show appears designed to portray the Rooneys primarily as a family.

The couple have spent much of their lives in the public eye, but they have generally maintained a degree of privacy around their home life. The Real Rooneys therefore represents a significant change, giving cameras access to moments that fans have previously only seen through carefully selected social-media posts.

The first eight episodes will be released exclusively on Disney+ on Thursday, September 24. Two additional special episodes will follow one week later, becoming available to stream on Thursday, October 1.

The Rooneys are not the first famous British family to invite cameras into their homes. Reality programming involving celebrities has become increasingly popular, with Netflix recently releasing shows centred on personalities including Gordon Ramsay and the Fury family.Coleen and Wayne Rooney

Disney+ has also developed a strong reputation for celebrity-led reality programming. The platform has found considerable success with shows such as The Kardashians and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, many of which have been associated with the Hulu side of the streaming service.

For Coleen, the new project marks another collaboration with Disney+. She previously appeared in the documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, which was released in 2023.

That documentary focused on the highly publicised legal dispute and social-media controversy involving Coleen and fellow footballer’s wife Rebekah Vardy. The case became one of the most widely discussed celebrity stories in Britain, particularly after Coleen publicly accused Vardy’s Instagram account of leaking private stories to the media.

Wayne, meanwhile, has continued to expand his presence in modern sports media following his managerial career.

Earlier this week, he appeared on the debut episode of Stick to United, a new visual podcast that he is co-hosting with Mark Goldbridge. The programme has been created with support from The Overlap, the media company founded by former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville.

The new podcast is expected to focus entirely on Manchester United and will run for 50 episodes, with Rooney and Goldbridge discussing the club’s performances and major developments throughout the season.

Rooney has previously worked alongside Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright and Jill Scott on projects including Stick to Football and The Overlap’s fan-focused shows. He explained that moving into a programme dedicated specifically to Manchester United felt like a natural progression.

The former England captain also expressed his enthusiasm about working with Goldbridge and appearing across different platforms, including The United Stand and Disney+.

His involvement in both projects demonstrates how significantly Rooney’s professional life has changed since his retirement from playing football. Once known primarily for his performances on the pitch, he is now developing a broader career across television, podcasts and football analysis.

The Real Rooneys will provide another opportunity for audiences to see a different side of the former Manchester United star.

Away from stadiums and television studios, viewers will see Wayne and Coleen managing family responsibilities, supporting their children and navigating the pressures that come with being one of Britain’s most recognisable sporting families.

With its combination of family life, career changes, travel, personal moments and behind-the-scenes access, the series is likely to attract both football supporters and viewers interested in celebrity and family entertainment.

For the Rooneys, opening their home to cameras represents a new chapter. For audiences, it offers the chance to see how one of Britain’s most famous football families lives away from the headlines.
