Haaland’s Former Teammate Predicts Real Madrid Move: “He Will Eventually Play for Them”
Erling Haaland’s future has once again become a topic of discussion, with one of his former teammates suggesting that the Manchester City striker is destined to eventually join Real Madrid.
Magnus Wolff Eikrem, who played alongside Haaland during the Norwegian forward’s early days at Molde, believes that the attraction of the Spanish giants will ultimately prove too strong for the 26-year-old superstar to ignore.
According to Eikrem, Real Madrid’s reputation, history, and status as a destination for the world’s best players could eventually convince Haaland to leave the Premier League and move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Norwegian midfielder, who had the chance to watch Haaland develop before he became one of football’s biggest names, believes the transfer is not only possible but highly likely in the future.
“I think it is something that could definitely happen,” Eikrem said, as reported by AS. “Actually, I believe it will happen one day. I would not say it is completely guaranteed, but I think there is a very strong possibility.”
Haaland has been connected with Real Madrid for several years. Even before his move to Manchester City in 2022, the Spanish club had been linked with a potential deal for the striker. Reports suggested that representatives from both sides had held conversations about a possible transfer before Haaland eventually chose to join Pep Guardiola’s team.
Eikrem believes that while Manchester City is already one of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid represents another level of prestige.
“Real Madrid’s worldwide appeal is enormous,” he explained. “Even though he is playing for a fantastic club like Manchester City, I think he could reach another level at Madrid. The best players in the world play there, and Erling is one of those players.”
The former Molde player also believes Haaland’s style and personality would make him a perfect fit at the Spanish club.
“I think he would score a lot of goals there. He would suit the team, make the supporters happy, and enjoy playing alongside so many world-class players,” Eikrem added.
Beyond his football ability, Eikrem also praised Haaland’s character and insisted that the striker would have no problem adapting to the expectations and pressure that come with representing Real Madrid.
“Erling does not create problems,” he said. “He is a humble and hardworking person. He does not chase attention, he gets along with his teammates, and he adapts well wherever he goes.”
“He understands other people and has a very good personality. I am sure there would not be any issues with his attitude or ego, at least from his side.”
The comments from Eikrem are similar to previous remarks made by Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, who was heavily involved in Haaland’s development during his time in Germany.
Watzke, who worked closely with Haaland between 2020 and 2022, previously suggested that the Norwegian has always admired Real Madrid and could eventually make the move to Spain.
“I know what he thinks very well, and I can say that he certainly respects Real Madrid and would like to play there at some point in his career,” Watzke said.
“He loves Real Madrid, and he has never hidden that. I believe he could be playing there in two or three years.”
However, despite the continued speculation, a move away from Manchester City appears unlikely in the short term due to Haaland’s current contract situation.
The striker committed his long-term future to City by signing a new 10-year contract extension in January 2025. The agreement keeps him tied to the English champions until the summer of 2034, giving the club significant control over his future.
Since arriving in England from Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has enjoyed remarkable success. He immediately became one of the Premier League’s most dominant attackers and played a crucial role in Manchester City’s historic 2022/23 season.
During that campaign, he helped Guardiola’s side win the Premier League title, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League, completing a famous Treble.
Individually, Haaland has also collected numerous personal awards and broken multiple scoring records, establishing himself as one of the most feared goalscorers in modern football.
Any club hoping to sign him would likely need to pay an extraordinary transfer fee. Manchester City would have little reason to sell one of their most valuable assets unless a record-breaking offer was presented.
Real Madrid, however, have a long history of signing football’s biggest stars. The Spanish giants have previously attracted legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Karim Benzema, and many other elite players who wanted to compete at the highest level.
For Haaland, a future move to Madrid could represent another major chapter in an already remarkable career. At just 26 years old, he has already achieved success in multiple leagues and continues to be viewed as one of the defining players of his generation.
While Manchester City supporters will hope he remains at the Etihad Stadium for many years, speculation about a possible Real Madrid switch is unlikely to disappear.
For now, Haaland remains fully committed to City and focused on winning more trophies in England. But if Eikrem’s prediction proves correct, the Norwegian goal machine may one day follow the path taken by many football legends before him and wear the famous white shirt of Real Madrid.
