Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has given fans an unusual glimpse into his life away from football after bringing a personal stylist all the way from the Netherlands to Manchester for a major wardrobe clear-out.
The 25-year-old Dutch international turned to fashion specialist Sydney Luchies for help reorganising his impressive collection of clothes. Rather than simply tidying the wardrobe himself, Zirkzee asked the stylist to travel from his homeland to England to sort through his outfits, decide what should stay and create additional space for new additions to his collection.
Luchies documented the unusual assignment on social media, sharing a behind-the-scenes video of her trip to Manchester. Her visit was remarkably brief. She flew from the Netherlands to England, completed the wardrobe transformation at Zirkzee’s home and then returned shortly after finishing the job.
In the video, Luchies explained that Zirkzee had contacted her because he wanted to completely reorganise his closet. The main objective was to remove clothes that were no longer being worn, free up valuable wardrobe space and make the entire collection look much cleaner and more organised.
The footage offered viewers a rare look inside the footballer’s spacious walk-in wardrobe, which contained an extensive selection of clothing. Zirkzee’s interest in fashion was immediately obvious, with numerous distinctive outfits and statement pieces filling the closet.
Luchies carefully worked her way through the collection, sorting individual garments and deciding which pieces were still worth keeping. At the same time, she rearranged the remaining clothes to ensure that everything was displayed neatly and could be easily accessed.
The task was about more than simply making the wardrobe look attractive. Zirkzee also wanted to create room for future purchases, meaning the stylist needed to identify items that had become unnecessary or were unlikely to be worn again.
Instead of allowing the unwanted clothes to go to waste, however, there were plans to give them a second life. Luchies revealed that some of the pieces removed from Zirkzee’s wardrobe could be sold on his behalf, while others would be packaged and donated to charity.
The wardrobe clear-out is not the first time Luchies has provided fans with an insight into Zirkzee’s passion for clothing. In an earlier social-media video, she documented another styling session with the Manchester United player and explained the process she follows when putting together outfits specifically for him.
That process began by discussing exactly what kind of image Zirkzee wanted to create. Instead of immediately selecting clothes, Luchies first asked the striker about his preferences and the particular aesthetic he wanted to achieve.
She then created a mood board to establish the overall direction of the outfits. Once the concept had been developed, different pieces were selected and combined to produce complete looks. Zirkzee was able to review the ideas before approving them, ensuring that the outfits reflected both the stylist’s expertise and his own personality.
After receiving his approval, Luchies travelled to Manchester with the selected clothing so that Zirkzee could try everything on during a fitting.
The footballer’s request was particularly specific. According to the stylist, Zirkzee wanted his outfits to capture the appearance of a 1990s rapper while still incorporating his own individual style.
That inspiration resulted in a series of bold combinations designed to reflect the oversized and distinctive streetwear associated with hip-hop culture during the 1990s. However, rather than simply recreating outfits from that period, the stylist attempted to modernise the concept and ensure that the final looks still felt personal to Zirkzee.
Luchies appeared pleased with the results, suggesting that she and the Manchester United forward had successfully achieved the look they had originally envisioned.
Zirkzee’s interest in fashion adds another dimension to a player whose football career in England has attracted plenty of attention since his arrival at Old Trafford.
The Dutch attacker has now spent two years with Manchester United. However, establishing himself as an automatic first-choice player has proved difficult. Competition for attacking positions has been intense, and Zirkzee has not always been able to secure the consistent run of starts that he would have hoped for.
During his time with the club, he has scored five goals in 56 appearances. Those numbers have led to questions over his long-term role in the squad, particularly given the enormous expectations that come with representing one of the world’s most famous football clubs.
Nevertheless, there have been encouraging signs that the forward could enjoy a more significant role during the 2026-27 campaign.
Zirkzee has produced some promising performances during pre-season, giving supporters reason to believe he may be ready to make a stronger impact. Pre-season displays do not always guarantee regular competitive football, but they can be especially important for players attempting to impress the coaching staff and move higher in the selection order.
Manchester United’s return to the Champions League could also work in Zirkzee’s favour.
Competing in Europe’s leading club tournament means United will face a demanding schedule across several competitions. More fixtures generally require greater squad rotation, which should create additional opportunities for players who might otherwise struggle to start every week.
For Zirkzee, that could mean more chances to demonstrate his qualities both domestically and in Europe. His ability to play in different attacking roles may also prove useful when United need to rotate their forward line throughout a long season.
At 25, Zirkzee is entering a particularly important stage of his career. He is no longer a young prospect with unlimited time to establish himself, but he is also still young enough to develop significantly and become an important player at Old Trafford.
The coming season could therefore be crucial in determining his future with Manchester United.
While supporters will ultimately judge him on goals, assists and performances rather than his fashion choices, his collaboration with Luchies demonstrates that the Dutchman has a clear interest in developing a distinctive identity away from the pitch as well.
Professional footballers have increasingly become influential figures in fashion, with many players using clothing as a form of personal expression. Social media has further blurred the boundaries between sport, entertainment and lifestyle, allowing fans to see much more of players’ personalities outside stadiums and training grounds.
Zirkzee appears comfortable embracing that culture. His desire for a 1990s hip-hop-inspired wardrobe shows a preference for bold, individual looks rather than conventional fashion, while hiring a professional stylist indicates how seriously he takes his appearance.
Flying a stylist from another country simply to reorganise a wardrobe might seem extravagant to most people, but for elite footballers, whose lives often involve international travel and specialist personal services, such arrangements are considerably less unusual.
The fact that Zirkzee’s unwanted clothing is expected to be resold or donated also means the clear-out will not necessarily result in perfectly usable garments being discarded.
For now, the Manchester United forward has a cleaner, more organised wardrobe and plenty of additional space for whatever outfits come next.
More importantly, though, Zirkzee will hope that his fresh start away from the pitch is accompanied by greater success on it. After an encouraging pre-season and with Champions League football adding more matches to United’s schedule, the Dutchman could receive the opportunities he needs to establish himself.
His wardrobe may already have undergone a major transformation. The challenge now is to produce an equally noticeable change in his fortunes at Manchester United.
