Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly developing a new friendship with former Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell-Horner and her husband, Formula One executive Christian Horner, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare for a possible return to Britain.
According to reports, Harry and Meghan were invited to lunch at Geri and Christian’s £9.2 million Grade II-listed former vicarage in the Cotswolds during the Sussexes’ visit to Britain in July. The meeting is said to have given the two couples an opportunity to discuss life in the UK, particularly as Harry and Meghan consider where they might establish a home for themselves and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Sussexes are reportedly preparing to relocate to Britain later this month. However, their return would not mean a restoration of their former positions as working members of the royal family. Harry and Meghan are expected to continue living as non-working members while maintaining their independent lives and public activities.
A source reportedly close to Geri and Christian claimed that Meghan and Geri have grown particularly close in recent weeks. Their communication is said to have become increasingly frequent, while Christian has also reportedly developed a friendship with Harry after having several conversations with him.
The source suggested that Geri is enthusiastic about the Sussexes’ return to Britain and is pleased to be involved in their new chapter. Christian, by contrast, is reportedly taking a more reserved approach. Nevertheless, the couple are said to understand that Harry and Meghan could soon be rebuilding their social circle in Britain, potentially making Geri and Christian important figures within that new group of friends.
Geri Halliwell-Horner is one of Britain’s best-known pop stars. She rose to worldwide fame during the 1990s as Ginger Spice, a member of the Spice Girls alongside Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton. The group became one of the most commercially successful pop acts of the decade, producing international hits such as “Wannabe,” “Spice Up Your Life” and “2 Become 1.”
Christian Horner has built his reputation in the world of Formula One. He spent around two decades as team principal of Red Bull Racing and was closely associated with a highly successful period for the team. Under his leadership, Red Bull secured numerous drivers’ and constructors’ championships before Horner departed the organisation in 2025.
The reported friendship between the two couples comes as Harry and Meghan make arrangements for a renewed presence in Britain. The pair moved to North America after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, but recent reports have suggested that they are now considering Britain as a more permanent base for part of their family life.
Archie and Lilibet are reportedly expected to attend school in Britain if the move goes ahead. Rather than living in a royal residence, however, Harry and Meghan are believed to be planning to establish their own private home. They are also expected to retain their property in Montecito, California, meaning the family could continue to divide its time between Britain and the United States.
The return would also mark a significant development in Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles. Charles is reportedly pleased by the possibility of spending more private time with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. At the same time, there has been no indication that Harry and Meghan’s formal position within the royal family will change. They would therefore return to Britain without resuming official royal duties.
A notable moment in the family relationship occurred during Harry and Meghan’s July visit to Britain. King Charles met Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, marking the first time he had seen his grandchildren in person since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Queen Camilla was also present for the meeting.
Harry’s relationship with the wider royal family has remained complicated since his departure from Britain. In his memoir, “Spare,” he described a number of disagreements and tensions involving members of his family. Harry and Meghan have also spoken publicly about their experiences within the monarchy, most notably during their interview with Oprah Winfrey and in their Netflix documentary series.
Despite those difficulties, the possibility of a return to Britain could provide Harry with greater opportunities to spend time with his relatives. The Cotswolds, in particular, would be a familiar part of the country for the Sussexes. Following their wedding in 2018, Harry and Meghan previously rented a farmhouse in the area before moving to Frogmore Cottage near Windsor.
The region has once again been associated with the couple as they consider establishing a British home. Their July visit to the UK reportedly included several significant family and personal stops. Alongside the meeting at Highgrove, Harry and Meghan visited Althorp in Northamptonshire, where Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, is buried.
Geri Halliwell-Horner has also had previous connections to the royal world. Before Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, there was widespread speculation that the Spice Girls might perform or attend the ceremony. Ultimately, Victoria Beckham was the only Spice Girl known to have attended the wedding.
Geri later appeared at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March 2020. That event became particularly significant for Harry and Meghan because it was their final official engagement as working members of the royal family before their departure from royal duties.
The reported friendship between the Sussexes and the Horners may also have been helped by their shared connections within royal circles. Princess Eugenie, a cousin of Harry, has maintained a close relationship with him and Meghan over the years and is also reportedly friendly with Geri. Such overlapping social connections could make it easier for the two couples to become part of the same wider friendship network.
If the reports prove accurate, Harry and Meghan’s relationship with Geri and Christian could represent an important part of their social life as they rebuild connections in Britain. Their return would not simply involve finding a home and arranging schooling for their children; it would also mean establishing a new social environment after several years away from the country.
For Harry and Meghan, developing friendships outside the traditional royal circle could be especially significant. Geri brings a long-standing connection to British entertainment and celebrity culture, while Christian has extensive links to international sport and Formula One. Their different backgrounds could give the Sussexes access to a broader social network as they begin this new stage of their lives.
The reported friendship therefore appears to be developing at an important moment. With Harry and Meghan potentially spending much more time in Britain, their relationship with the Horners could become part of a wider effort to establish a fresh social identity in the UK while continuing their independent status away from official royal duties.
At the same time, the couple’s reported plans suggest that their return will not mean abandoning their life in California entirely. By retaining their Montecito home, Harry and Meghan could maintain a connection to the United States while creating a stronger family presence in Britain.
The next few months may therefore reveal whether the reported friendship with Geri and Christian becomes a lasting part of the Sussexes’ new life in the UK. For now, the two couples are said to be growing closer, with their relationship developing just as Harry and Meghan prepare for what could be one of the most significant changes in their lives since leaving Britain.
