‘Virgin River’ Fans Just Got a Major Update About the Show’s Next Season
If you’ve already made your way through Season 7 of Virgin River, you’re probably in the same spot as the rest of us: wondering what’s next, how long we have to wait, and whether it’s too soon to start rewatching from the beginning. The latest batch of episodes dropped in March, and it gave fans plenty to talk about. Mel and Jack were looking ahead to the next chapter of their family, Brie and Brady still had plenty of feelings to sort through, and Doc and Hope’s marriage hit some real emotional bumps.
In other words, Season 7 may be over, but there’s still plenty to sort out! That little town has never had a shortage of romance, heartbreak, secrets, or people making very complicated decisions before they’ve even had their morning coffee. And after everything that happened in the latest season, fans have a pretty long list of questions.
The good news? We finally have a real update on Season 8. And it’s a big one!
Season 8 is officially happening—and it’s already filming.
There’s no guessing here! Season 8 is confirmed and production is already underway.

Tim Matheson, who plays Doc, shared the update on Instagram along with a behind-the-scenes look at the set. “And just like that, we’re officially back on set filming season 8 of #VirginRiver!” he wrote. “Here’s a little behind-the-scenes from season 7… we have a lot of fun behind those cameras, and I think that’s part of what makes the town feel so real.”

This one post answers the biggest question fans had: yes, they’re already back to work on the next chapter.
Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, also gave fans a tiny peek from set. She posted a photo with a camera and captioned it, “Trying to stay hydrated, sanitized and always maintain fresh breath. Virgin River S8.” All of our favorite stars are back in action! (And it sounds like they might be doing some kissin’. 😂)
When will Season 8 premiere?
Now here’s the part that requires a little patience from fans. For a while, Virgin River was on a pretty steady once-a-year rhythm, with new episodes often arriving around the holidays. That streak broke in 2025, when there wasn’t a new season, and Season 8 seems to be following that same slower schedule.

With filming just getting started now, a 2027 release looks much more likely than a 2026 premiere. It’s a longer wait than fans got used to in the earlier years, but if the show keeps turning out seasons as full of drama and romance as the last few, we’ll manage just fine!

A few changes are already in motion.
Season 8 won’t pick up with the exact same lineup. A couple of familiar faces have already exited, including Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), both of whom wrapped their storylines at the end of Season 7. That leaves a lot of room for new developments, especially with so many relationships still in flux and plenty of loose ends to tie up.

For now, it’s a bit of a waiting game—but at least we know the next season is already in the works, and that’s more than enough to hold onto for now!
