Thomas Tuchel Insists There Is “No Problem” With Jude Bellingham Relationship After Public Disagreement

Tuchel argued that if a player has just completed 120 minutes of intense football, given everything physically and emotionally, it is natural for them to respond defensively if only the negative parts of a manager’s comments are highlighted.

He pointed out that his full assessment of Bellingham’s performance included significant praise, including recognition of the midfielder’s world-class ability and the decisive moments he created during the game.

According to Tuchel, focusing only on criticism while ignoring positive comments created a misleading impression.

“What do you expect from a player who has just played 120 minutes and given everything?” Tuchel explained. “If you remove all the compliments and only tell him that the coach said he was sloppy, what reaction do you expect?”

The German coach said that the situation was exaggerated because people were attempting to create conflict where none existed.

He emphasized that both he and Bellingham share the same competitive mentality. Tuchel described himself as a demanding coach who pushes his players to reach their maximum potential, while Bellingham is a player who constantly wants to improve and win.

“We come from the same place,” Tuchel said. “We are both competitive. I push this team to the limit, and that was simply my assessment.”

Tuchel also suggested that the question asked of Bellingham immediately after the match was unfair because it focused only on criticism rather than the complete context of his comments.

He explained that any player would find it frustrating to stand in front of a microphone moments after a physically exhausting match and be asked only about negative feedback.
